Douglas O Bolin

Douglas Olaf Bolin, 81 of Manteno, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023. He was battling cancer, but stayed strong while surrounded by his loved ones during his final days. This was helped made possible by the efforts of his family and uplifted hospice care. He is survived by his wife Lolita (who shared nearly 62 years of marriage together) and his grandchildren Cooper, Madison, Sydney, and Crystal, as well as his great grandson, Jack. He goes to join his parents Olie, and Doris as well as his two sons, Tim and Terry. Doug was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 28, 1942. He attended Lutheran high school, and continued his education at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia Kentucky. It was in Kentucky that he met the love of his life, Lolly. It was love at first sight and the two were quick to get engaged. Judge Cal Mayberry wed the two in Celina Tennessee on August 20, 1961. Never turning back, they were stuck to each other's hip ever since. Doug and Lolly had two sons, Terry and Tim. Doug made sure to devote the time into making many beautiful memories with his wife and sons. Between all the fishing trips and vacations along the years, there is no lack of beautiful moments to look back on. That family bond and love was passed onto the next generations with Tim’s daughters (Madison and Sydney) and Terry’s son (Cooper). Doug was a carpenter by trade for most of his years. He enjoyed working with his hands and saw the value in everything that came across his path. He worked on many of Chicago's most notable buildings, then moving onto helping install sports equipment for the kids at High Schools in the Chicago area. After “retirement”, he worked as a custodian at Prairie view middle school for 12 years, as well side work at the local library, and greatly enjoyed every day of it. With a witty sense of humor and a kind heart, it comes to no surprise that his branches reached far and wide. He was a devoted member of Manteno United Methodist Church and served on many mission trips. Lolly and Doug both spent time teaching Sunday school class and greatly enjoyed mentoring confirmation students. He had an immense love for serving his family, his community, and God. Doug and Lolly enjoyed many years of traveling and cruising around the world together, never wasting a second and capturing enough pictures to fill a museum along the way. Their love was infectious to all those around them and their love story will be told for generations to come. The family is beyond grateful to all those who sent love and prayers during this time of loss. Doug will be having a memorial ceremony in the weeks to follow.
