Dolores Mae Knupp Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dolores Mae Knupp died May 16 at Miller Center in Kankakee. She was 89 years old. Dolores was born December 2, 1930, in Frankfort, Illinois, the daughter of Pearl and Osmar Knickrehm. She married Charles Knupp on December 18, 1954, in Manteno. Her beloved Charlie preceded her in death in 2003. Dolores began working at Manteno Bank in 1965 and worked her way up through the ranks to the position of senior vice president and cashier. She retired in 1994. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and sang in the choir for many years. She served as a trustee on the Manteno Public Library Board and volunteered for the Manteno Food Pantry. From summer camping vacations with her family across the United States to cruises down the rivers of Russia and Europe, across the Caribbean Sea and through the Panama Canal, Dolores was always ready for adventure. She was an avid reader, enjoyed golf and cheered on her Cubs. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. Dolores is survived by her daughter, Karen (Gary) Bankston of Eugene, Oregon; sons Mike Knupp of Kankakee and Christopher (Cindy) Knupp of Melbourne Beach, Florida; daughter-in-law Penny Knupp of Manteno; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Carol Murphy of Joliet. She was preceded in death by her brother Wendell, son Steve and grandson Kyle. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brown-Jensen Funeral Home, Manteno, Illinois. Due to the restrictions caused by COVID-19 only 10 people will enter the funeral home at a time. We will have plenty of staff around to help explain the procedure. We ask that you please follow the state’s guidelines where masks/face coverings and distancing are concerned. On behalf of the family and the funeral home staff, we would like to thank you for your cooperation. A private service will be held for the family with burial to follow in All Saints Cemetery. A memorial mass will be held for Dolores at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Manteno Public Library and Manteno Food Pantry.
