February 6, 1928 - August 23, 2018

Alta B. Brandt Born on February 6, 1928, in Sullivan, IL, beloved daughter of Clarence (“Pete”) and Thelma (Hughes) Crowdson; sister to Charlie, Thomas, Lawrence, Joseph, and Osa; loving spouse to Richard; mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, friend, Illinois Master Teacher, mentor, seniors advocate, long-suffering Cubs fan, cookie- and pie-baker extraordinaire, died August 23, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, IL. Those who cherish her memory include children David, Danita (Michael Velbel), Caroline, James (Marcia), and Alan (Heather), 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews; colleagues and students from her 28 years of teaching at Anna McDonald school in Manhattan, IL, her Manteno United Methodist Church family, neighbors, and fellow residents and staff at Presence Heritage Lodge. The family thanks Dr. Saw Oo for her care and compassion. A celebration of Alta’s life will be held Tuesday, August 28, at 7 p.m. at the Manteno United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors from 3-7 p.m. at the church. Remembrances can be shared online at www.brownjensen.com. Donations in Alta’s honor can be made to Loving Bottoms Diaper Bank, 3021 W.
